Workspace defaults

Set the fallback client rate, display currency and starting setup for new projects. A phase rate overrides a project rate, which overrides the default.

Set your default rate

Your default client rate gives Phased a value for time when a project or phase does not have its own rate. The most specific rate wins: phase first, project second, then this workspace default.

Settings open on Rates and currency: the default rate and the display currency, with the section list on the left. Settings open on Rates and currency: the default rate and the display currency, with the section list on the left.
  1. Open Settings and choose Rates & currency.
  2. Enter a positive amount in Default client rate.

Move away from the field, or press Enter, to save it.

Choose the display currency

Display currency sets the currency symbol and code used across the workspace. Phased does not convert existing amounts when you change it.

Saved reports keep the currency they were created with. A project budget of 1,500 therefore stays 1,500. Changing EUR to USD changes the workspace currency, not that amount through an exchange rate.

Choose how new projects start

Under Projects, choose whether the New project form starts on Simple or Phased. This is only the starting choice for the form. You can choose the other setup while creating a project.

  • Simple starts with one billing setup and one optional budget for the whole project.
  • Phased starts with separate phases, each able to carry its own budget and rate.

An existing simple project can be split into phases later. An existing phased project cannot be changed back to simple.
