What each health label means

Budget health compares original-scope time with the safe time provided by the budget. It updates from the current entries, budget and resolved rate. The label is calculated live rather than saved as a status.

  • On track: less than 80% of the safe time is used.
  • Approaching: 80% through 100% of the safe time is used, including exactly 80% and exactly 100%.
  • Over budget: more than 100% of the safe time is used.
  • No budget: there is no budget to compare with.

A budgeted phase with no original-scope time yet reads On track. On a phased project, the project-level label reflects the phase that needs the most attention.

Where to read budget health

On Pro, the Projects row shows a compact health chip that links to Profitability. The Budget performance section there shows the percentage used, the money and safe time left, and the effective rate for each budgeted project. Expand a phased project to inspect its phases.

These are lifetime budget figures. Changing the date range in Work value does not change them. Use the Active, Archived and All control to choose which projects are included.

What changes the result

Logging or editing original-scope time changes the percentage used. Editing a budget changes the safe range and agreed price immediately. A rate change also changes the safe hours derived from a money budget, or the money price derived from an hours budget. Existing reports keep their frozen work, budgets and amounts.

Reaching or passing the budget does not stop the timer, block new entries, increase the agreed price, or change their scope automatically. The effective rate simply falls as more original-scope time is recorded against the same price.
