Time tracking

Log the week by dragging on it.

Drag on the calendar to create an entry, drag it to move it, pull an edge to resize it. Every entry starts on a project and a phase, so your hours are organised the moment they exist.

Move a time block to another day and the daily totals update immediately.

Record time while the work is still fresh.

Friday tracking is guesswork. You rebuild the week from calendar events and memory, round everything to the half hour, and quietly lose the hours nobody scheduled.

Budget warnings, hourly earnings, and client reports are only useful when the hours underneath them are honest. Logging as you go takes one drag and gives you a record you can trust.

Drag a time block, or start the timer.

Drag from 11:30 to 13:00 and choose the project to create a 90-minute entry. For work with no known end time, choose the project and start the timer from the dock. The running entry appears on today's calendar until you stop it.

Both methods create the same editable entry. You can move it, resize it, or update its project, phase, task, note, and scope afterwards.

Assign every entry to a project and phase.

A project and phase are required for client work. Add a task and note when they are useful. The task picker offers names from your library so you do not have to recreate the same labels.

This assignment determines which phase budget the hours use and how the work appears in later summaries and reports. Mark the entry Out of scope when it covers work outside the agreed price.

More on projects and phases

See daily and weekly totals while you work.

Every day header shows its total. The strip above the calendar shows the week's hours, the share by project, and the value of priced client time using the rates set for that work.

The totals update whenever an entry changes; there is no submit or close step. The value is an internal estimate based on your rates, not an amount a client owes.

The rest of the toolkit

Quarter-hour snap

  • Drag anywhere on the grid and both edges land on the 15-minute mark.
  • Type an exact start and end when the quarter hour is the wrong answer.
  • The default snap keeps ordinary entry durations easy to read and total.

Stretch it, move it

  • Pull an edge to change when the work started or when it ended.
  • Drag the block to another day and the day totals follow it.
  • Both gestures happen on the block itself, with no form to open first.

One timer at a time

  • Starting a run stops the one before it, so two entries never accrue at once.
  • The dock keeps the running entry in front of you on every screen.
  • A stopped timer becomes an ordinary editable time entry.

Tasks from your library

  • The picker offers the tasks this project already uses.
  • Task groups keep the available names organised by where they are used.
  • Reports can use the same task names without a separate cleanup step.

Out of scope as you log

  • Mark extra work while it is still in progress, not at the end of the month.
  • Those hours stop counting against the original phase budget.
  • On Pro, they can be priced separately as Additional Work on a Phase or Project Report.

Internal time, tracked

  • Studio admin is logged the same way as every client hour.
  • It remains unpriced, so it does not increase the estimated value of client work.
  • You still see how much of the week went to your own business.

Common questions

Do I have to use the timer?

No. You can create entries by dragging on the calendar as the work happens or by filling in the day later. Use the timer for work with an unknown end time: choose the project, start the timer, and complete the remaining details when you stop.

Can I log time for last week?

Yes. Step the calendar back to any week and drag on it, the same as on today. An entry can also be moved to another day from the entry itself, so a block logged on the wrong day is one change away from the right one.

What if I forget to stop a timer?

The entry keeps running, and the dock shows it the whole time. When you stop it, change the start or end to what actually happened. Logged time always stays editable. A report you already created keeps the figures it had at that moment.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. On a phone the calendar shows one day at a time, and you swipe or step between days. Hold to draw an entry, tap one to edit it, and run the timer from the dock. The full week view is still where a desktop shines.
